Asphyxia • Alec Baenen

You say it’s been years

But I’ve seen you dancing on December nights

Draped in somber wisps of Carbon Dioxide

My eyes

They still relish every blinking moment

Imitating the way your chest stutters

Before you empty your lungs

It is the only fragment of time they know

My beloved, how could I forget you?

Don’t you know?

I remember you in breaths

Not memories
